[Cakes and cookies were luxuries in the Uraraka household, prepared only for the most special of occasions, so Ochako honestly... doesn't have much experience when it comes to baking. It's why, despite watching her friends pick out difficult recipes to try, she settles for what looks like the simplest option: cupcakes. They come out of the oven looking just fine, and she makes sure to leave them plenty of time to cool, but as she begins to pipe the icing on top of them she realizes that it might just be a bit more difficult than she'd initially anticipated. Too little pressure and the icing eeks out too slowly; too much pressure and the icing comes out in one huge splat. Still, she's determined to do her best!
And that's why she's bent over one solitary cupcake as Rinko approaches, tongue poking out of her mouth as she focuses very intently on making sure the little swirl on top looks just right. This is the one, okay? This... is going to be her masterpiece.
Except... not, because as she tries to listen to her friend's question she accidentally squeezes her pastry bag a bit too hard. So long, beautiful cupcake; it's now completely buried beneath a mountain of pink icing.]
Oh, no. [She raises back up, smiling ruefully down at her little disaster. Well... it's funny, at least.] I was thinking about it, but maybe I should just buy my chocolates this year? It might be safer that way.
[ one single cupcake is a-okay with her, it's quality rather than quantity that matters especially on a holiday like this one.
only oh no, she totally kind of startled uraraka into ruining the icing on her pastry. ]
A-ah, I didn't mean to... distract...
No, I'm sure this can be saved! [ on the one hand, it's just icing after all. she casts about and finds a small butter knife and begins to meticulously attempt to salvage the surface. it can be done!! frowning in thought as she does so-- ] Buying chocolates is fine after all, but... [ hmm, she's a little aware of uraraka's financial situation, it's something she's definitely sympathetic to. ] Sometimes stores will price hike around this time when it's near the holidays...
Also, making them is more fun, you know? Especially if you're making them with friends, it can also be more cost-effective!
[Ochako recognizes an expert in action when she sees it, and she wisely steps back without protest, making sure to give Rinko as much space as possible. She is, however, watching as closely as she can. You can pick up all kinds of new ideas from observing other people fight, so maybe she can pick up some baking tips from her friend...]
I know, I know. And I really do want to make them, because it's much more special that way, but... if I waste a lot of ingredients because of silly mistakes, then it might be more expensive in the long run. [She leans against the counter, watching Rinko deftly wield that butter knife. What she's accomplishing is definitely impressive. And maybe, just maybe...] Do you want to make some chocolates with me, Yamato-san? You don't have to if you already have plans, but I'm sure everything would go much smoother if you were there!
[Plus she's just a fun person to be around. So upbeat! So nice! It's like Rinko is her twin, but with much better baking abilities!]
[ she works deftly, tip of her tongue poking out a little in concentration, carefully scraping off the last of the accidental icing before putting the knife down and clasping her hands together in triumph-- ] Aha~ I got it! [ beams at uraraka, nearly sparkling, just so proud of what she'd done... not like she'd want to throw away any sweets at all, she can probably salvage anything short of charcoal or switching salt for sugar. ] If you want to reapply the icing, feel free.
And of course I could make chocolates with you! I'm already helping out here but... [ twists at her hands a little, her smile turns a little embarrassed-- ] I'm going to be borrowing this room a little longer after this session to make... um, special chocolates.
84 years later......
